Weird electrical issue

I noticed a clicking sound that was coming from underneath the dash on the driver side and the check engine, 4x4, awd, washer fluid lights all started blinking, and the speedometer stopped working, I noticed that it only did this when I turned on the headlights. When I turned the headlights off the noise stopped and the lights quit blinking. Well when I got home I got on the floor and listened and I figured out where the noise was coming from and it was two small boxes that are plugged into a receptical right above the OBDII port. I touched the boxes and I could feel one of vibrating form the clicking. I unplugged the boxes. With expedition off, I plugged the two boxes back into the receptical and the blower motor started running. This is too weird. I looked for exposed wires, loose connections. But I have had no luck. I am going to the dealer and see of they can tell me what the little boxes are for and get some new ones. The little boxes had a plastic cover that needed to be removed to gain access to them, and they look like the old flasher element but they are square. If there is anyone that has had the same issue or any advise. I would like to hear what you have to say.

sounds like "relays" But if one of those is toast, it usually doesnt work at all, and the whole thing would go blank. If it is clicking on and of like that, I might check any breakers you can find that might be hooked up to the lights.

Maybe Ill run out n C what I can find on mine.
