I have a 94 F-250 with 460 in it. I need to fix the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket. I have herd horror stories about bolts breaking off and warped manifold. I want to tackle this job my self. Whats the best advice that anybody can give me. Where can i find the gasket at. Thanks in advanced.
Almost any parts store can fix you up with the gasket. As for the bolts, if you can leave the truck parked for a day or so, soak each one with penatrating oil. Soak each one a couple of times. You should be OK after that. Good luck.
Try using some PB Blaster on the nuts and bolts for your manifoldwe sprayed mine for a couple of days then again when I used a impact wrench to remove them and didn't break one.you can also use a torque wrench to break them loose slowly.I only used the impact wrench where the exhaust pipes bolted to the manifolds.
Be sure and use anti-sieze compound on the bolts when you put the thing back together. I did this on mine several years ago and have been able to remove the bolts with ease ever since.
Leaking exhaust anywhere is not good but I doubt that running your truck with a leaky gasket will hurt anything. You need to fix this ASAP! You may need a new/replacement manifold (yours may be cracked) or you may already have a broken bolt which is why it is leaking. An impact wrench will really help removing the bolts.
Well i made it up there and back. I did have a problem, but im not sure if it had to do with the exhaust leak. I had to pull about a 6000 lbs trailer up a 8 mile streach up hill. about half way up my truck started loosing power. The tranny temp stayed at 160 deg and i kept it in 2nd gear around 3000. once i got to the top i pulled over to see what was wrong. i saw nothing wrong so we kept going and i noticed the tranny was shifting funny. (late or early) and it would lug the engine. as i took off the engine was serging and i had to lightly give it throttle to wind up the engine. I had this problem for the next 20 miles or so. I noticed if i manually shifted the tranny and keep it about 3000 RPM it was fine. But everytime i would have to staer pulling up a slight hill i would have to feather the gas to get it going. I did this all the way to camp. I finally made it and when it was time to load up to go home I didnt have a single problem. I was told maybe the exhause leak plugged up my o2 sensor. I would like any thoughts i can get on this. Thanks
