My brother has a 1994 3500 Cummins and all he did was grind the fuel plate and disable the wastegate so it stays closed, FREE. It hauls now but I am not sure how long his automatic transmission will like it. It is falling apart all around but he can pull anything.

A band-aid to keep the auto holding is to tie up the kickdown lever on the tranny. It raises the shift points a little, increases line pressure, and will usually hold the power a little better. It may make it live a little longer that way.
Dont forget, there's a governer washer mod you can do for the cost of 2 flat washers. It's the poor man's way to get a 3k GSK. That's one more freebie.
