I need tires!

I was impressed with the 265/75/16 Winston Winner LT's that came on my truck when I got it 10 months ago. They did great in the mud, and offroad in general for a street tire. But due to a V8, lead foot, and the fact that Im a teenager....I am in need of a new set (plus, one is leaking some air. I pulled down a barn today, and think I ran over a nail )

I am leaning heavily towards the Yokohama Geolander AT +II's. My friend has them on his Dodge, and they look great, are cheap, and get great traction. But Im worried about the mileage.

Basically, I want the most agressive tire (285/75/16) I can get, that will still last at least 30K-35K miles.

And one more thing....NO BFG's!!! They are over-rated and too pricey in my mind...

Have ya looked at any kumo's? I had a set of them on my old 4x4 and they looked deadly, were really reasonably priced. They seemed to wear out alot faster then my mt/r's, but im sure the price reflects on that too.

Maybe try ProComp XTerrains .. they ran me about $650 for the set 285/75/R16 (comes to $162.50/tire) but they have a 50K mile tread warranty. Pretty amazing I thought, however, most reviews say they're getting around 35K, 40K max. They are quiet on road and chew up some mud off road. Check out my galleries for pics of them.

Let us know what you end of getting.

I have the Yokohama's on the wife's vehicle and they are preforming well so far. I have my 3rd set of Mickey Thompson Baha Radial MTX's on my truck and i get around 30K or more on a set. They are priced similary to the Yokohama's

For what it's worth, my oldest son purchased a 2000 F-150 with the V6 and 5 speed tranny and as of this day, he has 92,000 miles plus and still has the original BFG tires that came on the truck. Looking at them, they will go 100k easily.

I was on tirerack last night, and really like the looks of the Firestone Destination M/T's. Plus...the reviews on them are awesome. Rank #1 in it's category. Plus, a good friend of mine works at Firestone.

Another good friend of mine also has Procomp XTerrains on his chebbie. Very nice tire...but I have never heard of that mileage warranty for a M/T tire. Its not listed on their web site either...

I just put my second set of BFG AT's on my truck. I got 60K on the first set and the majority of it was highway mileage.

Over-rated??????

The warranty on the XTerrains was quoted to me by the store I bought them from, they actually double checked it with ProComp to verify. I highly recommend them, they are sweet and they get attention like you wouldn't believe. I get compliments on my truck everywhere I go, especially on the wheels and tires.

As far as the Destination M/T's go, we use them on our work trucks. Good tires, we've never been stuck yet. As long as you rotate them every oil change, they'll last for a while. We hardly ever rotate our tires on our work trucks and we are averaging about 30K with them.

My luck with tires

I had Yoko's on my last truck plus 2 T-birds. They were fantastic. Decided to try something different and went to Kumho's. They are great in snow, look good, tho the OWL's are a bit too big for my taste. They are a little bit noisy, but nowhere near the Goodyear Wrangler RTS - don't buy Wranglers unless you have a wife you need to drown out. They do wear like iron, but in 18 months, will get so hard they spin on a white line.

Stick with name brands that can be serviced/warranted in East Overshoe if you have a problem. Try Tire Rack and have 'em sent to a local shop for mounting.

I was going to order some off of Tire Rack. BUT...I have a friend that works at a Firestone service center. He can get me Destination M/T's for $167/ea, Whereas Tire Rack wants $165/ea...plus $20/ea for shipping...

I think I'll just get them locally..

That's even better yet - tho the price of the Kumho's is $123 for the 285/75x16 at Tire Rack (and $156 for the Yoko's)

(Depends on how good the friend is at Firestone as well )

The Kumho's look nice...but I havent heard much good news about them. Plus, it doesnt show the tread depth...

The Yoko M/T's dont have the treadwear I would want. I want at least a couple years out of these tires.

Hmmmmm....

Thumbs up Good luck

[QUOTE=ATC Crazy]The Kumho's look nice...but I havent heard much good news about them. Plus, it doesnt show the tread depth...

Guess what you heard surprises me about the Kumho's. Tire Rack rates them #3 behind Bridgestones and Firestones (interesting - same company !!)

And actually higher than B-F in "Would you buy again" - 9.3 vs 8.9/9.0 (for B-F)

Tread depth is probably 17/32 - a call to Tire Rack would confirm

Take a look at this :http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ireSearch=true

Good luck in whatever you end up with on your truck
