To the best of my knowledge, "Sport Custom" was not a trim option until 1970. The 67 had only "Standard", "Custom Cab" and "Ranger" packages. If you have a sport custom emblem on the truck I suspect it was either added or perhaps the bed was changed. 67 beds did not have any rear side reflector mounted in the body line. That is about the easiest way to tell. Maybe we can determine if your truck is close to original if perhaps you describe it a little further.
The bed is most likely a '67. It doesn't have the reflector at the end and there are no reverse lights. The hood emblems don't have reflectors either. I'm pretty sure that it has the '67 style grill also. The door handles and window cranks are '67 also. It's got a 300 six with an automatic tranny. I don't remember if it has custom cab emblems or not. There is no chrome other than the grill, front bumper, door handles(inside and out), and windsheild trim. If someone added the Sport Custom emblems, they did a really good job of locating them on the body. I couldn't tell that they weren't factory applied.
So your truck doesn't have the chrome strips around the door panels, rain gutter or headliner? These were a part of the custom cab package, I believe. Maybe yours is just a custom with fancy nameplates someone added on a whim.
The good job notwithstanding, it wouldn't have been hard to purchase "sport custom" emblems and properly install them. I have numerous 67 literature; no mention of sport custom in there. I did find my 1970 dealer literature after I posted which confirmed what appeared to be the introduction of the sport custom package that year.
From your description it sounds like you checked most of the 67 identifying features. I have only
Two more questions: What do you have for heater controls? What is the body code on your warranty tag? I would think your cab should have had the custom cab emblem since it sounds like you have that option.
Something I forgot to comment on in your post was that 67-72 Style-sides all had the back-up light as part of the rear tail light lenses. Something is amiss if your lenses have no back-up lights. Are these original lenses or aftermarket? What markings are on the lenses?
I went to my Dad's place this weekend and looked at the truck again. It is a custom cab after all. In my above post I was working from memory. It has all of the custom cab trim inside and out. I'm not sure if the tail lights are original or not. I know that the motor is from a '79 for sure because I transplanted it in after the original blew. I guess some previous owner thought that it would be cool to add the Sport Custom emblems to the truck. It really doesn't bother me since I'm not too concerned with going to a full stock resto. I have already recovered the seat and dash pad in a pattern of my own design. I don't plan to do anything radical to the truck but I do plan on adding a few things to dress it up a bit.
Thanks for the info.
