9" 3rd Member Rebuild
I'm rebuilding a 9" 3rd and need some info on the pinion assembly.
What I have found says that I should assemble it with the crush fitting and then torque the pinion nut down to 175ft/lbs torque. From there it says to adjust until the rotational force does not exceed 5-8 inch/lbs?
How do you measure this...with an inch/lb torque wrench? Mine only goes down to 25in/lb

I've always done it by feel and 5-8 seems a bit low to me. Do you have new or used bearings? If new, then that number is to low. New should be a bit higher than used bearings.
I would almost promise you that if you torque the crush sleeve to the number you mention it will over crush the sleeve. I just tighten the crush sleeve until I get the feel I want.
