I want to change back to the orig round style tail lights on my 48, the po had put aftermarket tail lights and turn sig lights on. I havent been able to find what I'm looking for, so I think I might try to make it myself. I saw a set of round tail lights made for bikes and model a's where they're split in half, the bottom being the running light and the top half being the brake. If I opened it up, put my running/brake light bulb in the top and my turn signal bulb in the bottom, this could work right?
I think those are the same ones I saw, brake and running light. I'll call em up and see if they have a turn signal in them. Either way, they're 1/3 the price of the ones I was going to buy to open up, so thanks!
Speedway has a bunch of street rod tail-lights. I bought my '39 tear drops from them that I frenched into my roll pan on my '53. I have had no problems ordering from them either

The round ones closest to the original are the same as 33-36 Ford passenger cars and just about anyone selling reproduction parts will have them. The 28-31 Ford lights have two bulbs in them. One is for brakes and the other for tail lights. The problem with those is that the tail light bulb you have to use in them is a small single contact bulb that is not very bright for tail lights. The 33-36 lights have a single dual filament bulb in the center. If you plan to run blue dots, the 28-31 lights do not work as well because the bulbs are not centered in the lense. The 33-36 lights with the bulb in the center makes the blue dots much more visible and you can use a halogen replacement for a 1034 or 1157 bulb or Ron Francis Brite Bulbs if you want even more brightness...

I also had a problem with my tail-lights not being all that bright. I was going to line the housings with aluminum foil, but decided to paint the inside of the housing with silver gloss paint instead. WOW! What a difference that made. The lights got alot brighter.
