My Scanguage tell me my coolant temp is usually about 188*F. Last weekend I was towing my 6000*TT , outside temp was 80 and raining. Going 60mph thru some hills in Pa the temp went up to 215* for awhile. The factory guage never moved and the fan never came on. I checked the coolant level the next day and it may have been a little low but no puking was evident. Does this temp sound OK for prolonged towing? At what temp does the fan kick on? Inquiring minds want to know.
My 2005 Excursion 6.0 runs anywhere between 190-210 unloaded here in Vegas. Outside temps are about 100-115. You will be fine. I think overheating is about 265 at sea level. Your OEM gauge will move if you start to get too hot and your fan will come on.
Thermo starts to open between 189F to 196F... Fully opened at 219F or so..
The Visctronic Fan is controlled by the PCM for fan speed/duty, and fan speed is not only controlled by the engine coolant temperature, but engine oil temp, tranny fluid temp, intake air temp, and/or air conditioning requirement/load. When the demand for fan speed is requested for cooling, the PCM monitors the fan speed through the hall effect sensor. If fan speed needs to be increased, the PCM outputs the PWM (Pulse Width Mod.) signal to the fluid port, providing for a fan speed increase.
