I found the trickest set of strap wrenches at an auto parts store here in Fairbanks. $12.00 for 2 of them. They are heavy duty plastic with heavy bungee cord type straps. They can also double as jar openers for your wife and you can pass them off as a birthday gift for her. Posted this question in another thread but am going to put it here too looking for a response. Changed my fuel filter yesterday and found the O-ring laying at the bottom of the bowl. What is the purpose of this O-ring? Not being where it belongs did not seem to effect the engine at all. The last time the filter was changed was at a stealership.
Vinny you have bigger ones then me ! I would think I would or could break the top. I have a tool I got from napa looks like a u that you put a ratchet on , works great. I have seen many differant types out there. But what ever works for you. Tap carefully!!
I cant get my filter seperated from the lid? if there something I am missing? I've pried on it some but I couldnt get it off. I dont want to mess something up. Anything I'm doing wrong?
it sounds like you have the kind of filters that are attatched to the lid. i diddnt notice in tour first post about the 1/2 inch socket. those are not oem filters and the ones you bought probably are. you can get either ones but the one you took off probably wont come off the lid and you will either have to buy the ones attatched to the lid or buy another oem lid and use the filters you bought already
hey, NAPA sells a replacement lid for $14.00. I just picked around in my scrap metal and made a wrench that is a "T" design on both ends with 1/4" rod to fit in the lid. Works great and your hands are now above everything.

The o-ring usually comes off when the filter is removed not on install. Just always make sure to check in the bottom of the bowl before you install the new filter.

You have the aftermarket filter. The cap is disposable along with the filter. You will have to buy the filter and the cap (aftermarket) attached together or buy a new OEM cap to use the cartridge filters.
