I just rebuilt a motorcraft 2 barrel carb for my 302 that has a spring on the float and I haven't been able to get the float set because I'm not sure how it was set in the carb.
63, Are you meaning your re-installing the old float that was in the carb before you re-built it? And can't figure out how it sat in there? If so the spring you mention goes on the pin that the float rides on. The long straight end of the spring goes against the inside wall of the carb close to the needle seat. The coiled part goes around the pin. Then the short end (that would be L shaped) rides under the back of the float frame. The short part also lies right against the float frame where the L piece will be all the way under the float. When you have it like this there will be a little tension on the spring. If this isn't what your talking about, Sorry. Good luck!
Thanks alot guys, I actually was able to find the problem. The retainer for the pin on the new float had to snap on the seating for the needle. once I got that fixed the needle actually shut off the gas and it stoppedoverflowing. The bad news is the back seal started leaking oil. Ain't life grand when your having fun with a ford truck.
