Did some searching on this but didn't really find anything.
From my experience tuning rx-7s its a good thing to cool down turbos, but a friend of mine whos into the older ford diesels says he read somewhere here that its not good to idle a diesel for turbo cooldown?? Doesn't make sense to me.
Anyways, is it a good idea?
If so, I have a spare BLITZ FATT and am wondering if anyone has installed one?
I was wondering the same thing its nice being able to leave your truck running when you run inside a quik mart and not have to stop or start it and have no fear of someone stealing it.
I had a remote start put on and all I do is trigger the remote start...(hit the door lock button 4 times) and the remote start kicks in. It runs for 12 minutes and shuts off if you let it go. The dude that did the install somehow wired it through the door lock wireing and you can hit the door lock button 4 times or hit the remote start button all before you shut it down and when you hear the relays click, you know its safe to turn the key off and take it out. Then lock the doors and go inside to pay for the fuel or whatever...I have the keys and if someone happens to get inside, and push the brake, it shuts down....in theory anyway....Just a suggestion..it also prevents hot truck in the summer and icebox in the winter.....
I gues my question is whether there is any measurable good with today's oils and turbos?
Even with today's oils, the turbo still needs to cool down after a hard pull. It spins en excess of 100,000 rpms and if not allowed to cool the oil actually cooks on the bearings, called coking, and can shorten the life of your turbo.
