Egr

Loosing power under load? Poor mileage? Change the EGR!! At 138,000km I had never changed it and the truck was acting up a little. NO CODES, NO LIGHT, just a hunch and I asked the mechanic to pull it off and have a look. Totally bunged up and not functioning properly. Mileage has gone up at least 20%. I have not figured it out the hard way yet but it now gets over 1000km's to a tank load when it would push to get 850 before, summer time running.

2004 with 03 motor F350 dually super cab with 4:10's and 2000lbs of rack and cap on the box empty as well as it gets loaded regularly and tows a medium sized trailer a couple times a week.

This just blows me away! My 7.3's with same specs would get maybe 900km's to a tank and this thing when new was only getting 800-850. Is this a new design EGR and seeing as it pulls no code how do you know when to pull it off and toss it?

BTW: It has had all flashes and recalls as they came out and it is maintained flawlessly.

The egrs are a very touchy animal in the 6.0. The map sensor controls egr usage. If the motor gets too hot,it cokes up. If the motor gets too cold, it cokes up. The best defense in my opinion, is to use a quality cetane booster additive in your fuel(no need to over-medicate)every tankfull.

I agree with the additive/cetane booster, it is definitely a must, especially with the upcoming ULSD.
