ECZ-B Manifold ?

Just scored a manifold off of e-pay and it is just what I was needing for my Edelbrock carb. Now the question, on the left side down near the bottom of the heater box is something I don't recall ever seeing before, it is a round cap looking thing about the size of a quarter on a stem sticking out about an eighth of an inch, what's it's purpuss and can it, should it be removed??? Tom

Stockcar nut, is this the item you are describing ? It is a vent for the choke heat tube. On the backside there are small holes which allow air to flow thru the tube that runs from side to side in the exhaust passage. The other end goes to the choke .

Buns, that's the little critter I'm talking about but, my choke heater was not part of it, my choke was a fitting with a one inch deep well and that was it. I removed it and will plug that hole as my carb has an elect. choke. So my little gizmo isn't hooked to anything, i just wondered what it was and if it could also be plugged.
