I found the thread and pics, looked behind the radio and at the firewall but can't find the box. Danged must be blind or something but bifocals do make it difficult. 2000 model bought used and car dealer didn't have the code from origional owern. Really had to pay dealer for what is on the little box. I have had 4 lincolns new and all had the code on the keyless box. Still looking any help would be appreciated. PS if can't find the box any other way short of dealer. I saw on ebay a guy selling the solution and it looks like just information. thanks Jim
I have a 2000, I never did find it. Ended up at the dealer for a injector harness repair, had them grab the code, no extra charge, when they were diagnosing.
My lincoln's had the box in the drivers door connected directly to the key pad,, but I really hate to pull open the door if not needed. My data says behind radio but for the life of me I can't see it. Jim

Jim, unfortunately, the 2000 X does't have the code stamped anywhere in the body... I was in the same boat... believe me, I've gone through every nook that someone's suggested. Gotta go get the dealer to fess.
I went back to the Ford dealer I bought mine from (used) and talked him into getting it out of the computer for me.
I have a 2002 excursion that I purchased about 3 weeks ago. I removed the trash bag holder that is located below the cup holder on the dash. then using a flashlight I was able to read the code on the box. There was a wire in the way but I was able to look from two angles to see the code. The numbers are about an inch tall each.

Hey! I had tried that earlier and gave up when I ran into ductwork. I just went back out and tried again and there it was! Good job To Mater. Thanx
Assuming you have taken the trash bag holder off, lay on the right side floor with your shoulder kind of up on the tranny hump. When you look into the hole behind the trash bag holder you will see black duct work descending across most of the right 2/3 of the hole. Look past it to the left at a kind of 30 degree angle. With a strong flashlight you should see a white label back at the firewall with a barcode and a bunch of little writing. On that label, in about inch high letters is the number. Mine was sideways, but I figured it out! Went to school in the forties, so it took longer to stand back up than it did to read the number. Hope this helps.
Thanks again,, I will try later,, too pooped now. I pulled apart 3 doors and replaced the lock actuators. This meant pulling all the latches and door handles off. cool 96 degree 100 % humidity day. Then got gutsy and changed fuel filter. I will check for the code later this week. But if you need to know how to pull out your lock actuators, I have it down to about 45 min /door. Jim
