Guys, Just bought an CB Radio for my 2005 Super Duty V10, question is where would you install it at? It seems like theres no room under the dashboard.
Any ideas. Thanks again ~Gage~
I've got mine mounted down low on the dashboard of my '04, right in the center. I put the mounting bracket on the edge where the dash plastic shanges over to the black underpanel. I've got it tilted up so it's almost vertical. I hooked into the factory "Customer Access" wire that comes on when you have the key in ON. That provides me good clean power with the diesel, anyway. My only beef there is that it's not on when you flip the switch to the Accessory Position.
I'm running a Cobra 29NW/WX/ST, by the way. I'd post a pic of the mount if I could get it to work right. I don't know if it'll work with a stick shift or not. The 04 and 05 dash should be pretty similar down low. I hope this helps.
I mounted mine at the stupid little hook in the lower dash using the hook panel's mounting screws so no drilling (except to the CB bracket). Also made easy access to the cigarette lighter wiring.
Mounted mine in the indent just below the little cubby hole by the heater controls. (I think the indent was designed for a transfer case shift lever?) Anyway, no drill, just wipe down with alcohol twice and layed 3 strips of the 1" grey 3M double-sided tape down the top of my CB. My brake controller is also stuck to the bottom of the CB (I don't recommend if you have the the older-style inertia controllers that have to be adjusted to level...in case it falls off) It hasn't so-much as wiggled and I hang my mike and other stuff from the CB. I used the same setup in my last truck and had to pry it off the dash with a plastic ice scraper...no damage though.
On the roof, of course........ I have a Lil Wil (Wilson) magnetic mount. Just ran the Ant. cable thru the dash, under the door sill plate, and tusked in the rear door weatherstrip and out. I do get a little wire buffeting at about 50mph, but works great.
Radio mounted with a RAM radio mount to the center console (I have captains chairs) antenna magnet mount to center of roof. Ran wire out of third brake light.
I installed a hump mount like this one www.thomas-distributing.com/wo-b-2030.htm. I didn't need the center seat foot room and wanted to also mount a switch box for all my lights. I attached the switch box to the CB.
I HAVE A 2006 F-250 CC with the split front bench seat with driver and passenger power seats. I mounted mine right in in the center of the front seat. I used 90 degree brackets that are mounted to the two front bolts that hold the center cention of the seat down. Then mounted the CB bracket to that particular bracket. Still leaves lots of leg room for a third person on the front seat. Tapped into the power for the power seat. My K40 is mounted on an antenna bracket at the left front corner of the bed right behind the cab. With a long steel whip it easily clears the cab. I'm using a Midland 79-290 11 and 10 meter band radio with NOAA weather alert and detachable face security system. I will try and post some pics over the next few days.
Regarding the Antenna, I have mine mounted on the driver's side hood channel as close to the windshield as I could get. It's mounted up with Firestik stainless hardware. I've got a 4 foot Firestik II barehands tunable fiberglass whip on it. I filed a little cutout into the wiper cowling and ran my cable down the inner fender and into the truck via a body plug underneath. I cut a small slit in it, ran it into the cab where I needed it, and sealed the plug with black silicone. Not the easiest setup, but it does have quite a reach to it.
I built a console that goes between the Lariet factory console and against the dash, I also have a gauge and air switches for the in cab controller for the airbags set in it. The only problem is its just below the drink holder and I have to be careful about spilling.
As I have a 6 speed, and 4wd shifter, I had no room under the dash, so i mounted it (cobra with weather) in the drivers door lower pocket. It was a sonofagun to get the coax and power wires through the wiring duct and into the cab! Works good there, i can hear it great, but i put a smoke detector dust cover (think small shower cap) over it when it rains. I dont like it to get wet when i open the door.
