is there a way to add homelink to my Ex? I can not use the mirror, because I have a Savv 5200 lcd mirror that is hooked to my backup camera. I am looking for other options
my homelink buttons are on the visor (a 2002 limited)
i'd like to figure out how the thing works.
do you need a special switch in the house?
homelink web site mentions radioshack but those guys don't have what i think i'm looking for.
I have an 05 limited with homelink. It doesn't require anything special in the house. It can learn frequencies (i use mine for my garage door opener). There is a simple learn procedure in the owners manual. Takes about two minutes to program.
jhooch
i read that in my manual but i would like to turn on an outside light when i pull up to the house.
the light is operated by a two way switch.
i was hoping that i could replace one switch with a switch/homelink receiver type of thing.
no luck yet.but i saw an ad in autoweek listing a new web site for homelink stuff.
the link to homelink is opendoorsandmore com via the web
it looks like you could retro fit
they have systems for motorcycles in the ad i saw.
sent them an e mail to see if they can solve my issue
Aklim they have a replacement rearview mirror for something like $300 which would be the way I would have liked to go, but I bought a Savv mirror with an LCD so I can have moives and a back up camera. Its clips over the mirror making it impossible to reach the buttons. it might work for you though.
so homelink responds much like the guys at radio shack and refer me to a company called
x10 dot com.
email these guys and no luck for what i'm trying to do. so i'm lost, homelink is useless to me. but maybe either site will have info for retro fit applications others are looking for.
good luck
Homelink only operates items that are already remote controlled....like your garage door opener. If your lights, for example, use a remote...it's simply a case of programming the Homelink button in the truck to the original remote.

You can use the light controls made as accessories to garage door openers such as Sears, Liftmaster and Chamberlin (all the same, just find the one that is availible in you area) These activate lights with a garage door remote, so you can program the Homelink to work them.
