The "Super Duty" was introduced in MY 1999. There are however 1999 F-250's that are not Super Duty's, but Heavy Duty's.

Thanks for playing this little trivia game with me. Actually the first time Ford used the name Super Duty was in 1958, when Ford came out with the monster motors the 401, 477, and 534 gas truck engines. Starting in 1958 any truck with any one of the three engines had the Super Duty badge on it. I know that this was used until 1969. I do not know when Ford started using it again. It is very possible that they never totally quit and continued to use it on some of the bigger trucks with the S/D engines, I just do not know for sure. Mobey Dick said he had seen the badge on a 1975 model, so that leads me to believe that the name may have never been dropped at all. Perhaps some of you may have more info on this. I have two pages devoted to the N and H series Ford trucks on my website of which many were Super Duty's. I also tell a little S/D history on the website. www.michellesfords.com Go to the bottom of the page and click on the N or H truck page.

If you're talking about the Super Duty engine you posted in the wrong forum. The engine forums are further down.

Actually I was not talking about the engines specifically, the trucks were branded with the name tag Super Duty's meaning that they were rugged trucks. Just the same as the trucks that the people on this board including myself drive today. In my humble opinion the Super Duty trucks of today are some of the finest most rugged light duty trucks built period. I was just pointing out that the name has been around for a very long time, but most people never associate it with earlier trucks, in most cases it is only associated with the 99 model and up Super Duty's.
