My first car was a 1951 Studebaker Lark, with a stock 1957 Chysler 300 392 Hemi, two four barrel carbutators, push button automatic transmission and a 3.23 sure-grip differential. As we use to say, It would out run the word of the lord. The front end finially gave way due to all of the weight, but for about 3 years it was a blast. The car was the same age as me.
my first car was a 1971 chevy 3/4 4x4, but my firsr running car was a 1972 mach 1 mustang. sold the mustang to pay for completion of a 1968 camaro which i drove to school, wrecked that (not my fault) and used the money to finally get the 1971 chevy running.
the 1971 truck motor blew up and sold that and purchased my first brand new truck........a 1995 f350 4x4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1967 Firebird convertible; I built it from the ground up. Memories? Many, including taking GF's out for the night and having oodles of fun in the back seat with the top down . Drive in movies were great too; put your buddies in the trunk, go in and pay for one person, then once inside they'd craw into the car under the rear window. No trunk popping open and the lot guys catching you. What happened to it? I sold it back in 1998. Sometimes I miss it but for the most part I don't. Those cars get you in lots of trouble with the cops, they don't handle/brake nearly as well as things made in more modern times, and like cars of that vintage they were rather vulnerable to rust. Back then, a 10 year old car was considered a really old car; the owner was way past due for a new one. Ragtops are a lifestyle of their own, you have to accept cold in the winter, noisier inside, and sometimes drafty. Then again, they are an open air driving experience that is one of a kind.

1971 VW Bus. It looked awsome but run like you know what. I did about everything you can imagine a 16 year old kid doing in that bus. I loved that thing, but it was ALWAYS breaking down. When I look back I'm glad it did because I learned a lot about how things work. I must have pulled that engine a dozen times. Ended up selling it after about two years of ownership. Got a call from the police about five years later asking about it. They said it was used in a robbery. I said: Don't worry, if it was the get away vehicle they didn't get far.
My first car was a 1980 Toyota pickup with a 20R 4 cylinder engine that just wouldnt quit. I bought it from my brother for $400. It was red and blue and 5 diffirent shades of rust and primer. I was fixing up the body and finally got ticked off in my 16 year old wisdom and sold it to a buddy for $800. He finished the paint job (rattlecan) and ran it up against a few trees and tore the living he!! out of it and finally sold the motor which is still running today.
1958 pontiac.freebie. 3 weeks later the timing chain snapped. bought a 59 pontiac catalina for $15 to replace it so i could use all the parts the 59 needed off of the 58. this was back when a car had a 29 gallon gas tank.... and $5 would fill it up from empty... and you still had enough change left for 2 cokes from the machine.

At the ripe old age of 14, I found a 1934 Ford 5 window coupe that had been wrecked and fairly well stripped. The back splash pan was caved in, most of the interior was missing, engine and trans were gone. It was basically a body, frame, and steering gear. I paid ten dollars for it and brought it home on a trailer. My old man just about had a coronary with that junk sitting in the back yard. Well, as luck would have it, one of his buds had a brother that was souping up a Corvette when he got in trouble with the law. Seems he was going to have around a 15 year sabatical with the State of Texas and this bud didn't want the engine in his garage. I got it for free and all of the performance parts and then some. So the old man got the itch to help build this junker and so the adventure began. I found a Lincoln Zypher 3 speed tranny and had a speed shop rework it for the "Vette engine. They also built a custom 10" clutch for it. I found an axle from a 40 Ford 1 ton with an enclosed driveshaft that was just the right width so it went under the car. To shorten this up, when I got finished, it was running the 1/4 mile in the low 13"s at 110 mph+. At 40 mph, if you knew how, you could let up off of the gas and slam it back down and it would pull both front tires and hold them there for longer than you wanted. Kinda neat pulling up to an elderly couple, get up off of the gas and do a wheelie past them. Never got a ticket, just plain lucky as you couldn't miss the car with the dropped front axle, cherry bombs with scavenger pipes just about dragging the ground, in flat black with 57 Plymouth cone style hubcaps. If you couldn't see it, you could darn sure hear it- for miles. My dad decided one day to take it to work- he had never driven the car. He got 5 tickets with it. The man had no clue what we had built and had a blast. He decided WE needed to get rid of that thing and I was to find ANY other car as long as it wasn't a hot rod. I sold it to a friend who proceeded to destroy it. In less than a month there wasn't much left. I ended up with a 1960 Chvrolet Impala convertible, bright red with a 348 and powerglide. It was the ever loving land slug. It wouldn't get out of it's own way but drive it down a Texas beach with the top down and it would have bikinis all over it and me too. The old man wasn't real fond of that car either until he drove it down the beach. His next car- a candy apple red GTO.
Mine was a 1979 Mazda RX7. It had a rotary engine. My stepdad dropped it and moved the firewall back. We put a 6 cylinder chevy in it out of an old Nova. That thing was totally squirrely. You barely hit the gas and the rear end would slide around.
my first ford was a "91" ford exploder 4x4. it was a nice suv untill i got a hold of it. i was in the mud hole every chance i got. i had it up on its driver side two wheels. i tore off the front bumper twice. had a 4 car accident in it "my fult" . i put it throught hell and after three years of abuse the barins went out the rings gave out on me so it went to the boys ranch in florida.
First vehicle I DROVE was a 1968 F-100. I was 8.
First one I drove on public roads was a 1976 F-350 crew cab, 390 4 speed. I was 13. (permits could be gotten at 15)
First one I owned was a 1982 Plymouth Arrow pickup (think Mitsubishi or Dodge D-50). Only car I owned that was brand new. Dad helped me finance it and I earned the money to pay for it by working his farm. I was 15. I drove that thing to 150,000 miles, gave it to my dad who drove it for several thousand more. When we were done with it it was rusted out, smoked like a bug fogger while driving, rattled, heaved, and probably wouldn't pass safety any more. It went to a salvage yard. God I miss that little truck.
Drove it for a long time, cost, 20 bucks and swap the engine out for one my uncle had. It ran, but No 1 Cyl was bad. Got towed when the City did one of their 'Junker Sweeps' while I was in-country. Man, was I p/o'ed, still ran good.
About a week after I bought the ******, 49 IH P/U, 25 bucks used it for work, Hay Hauling and Lawn Work. Four summers, from 14 to 18, sold it to my cousin for 50 buck the day I shipped out. You could not start that thing when it was cold!
My 1st car was a '52 Chevy Deluxe 4-door - battleship grey w/ beige woven interior. 235 I-6 and 4-spd from a '60 pickup, ran the back roads around Gasquet,CA. A LOT of fun. Here in TN, they would call it a shine runners car except for the 6-cyl.
