engine trouble 352
I have a 352 motor freshly rebuilt by reputable mechanic here's my problem: Truck starts fine idles fine, but if you really mash on the gas it all but dies and sometimes backfires through the carb. I have tried 3 different carbs and the results are always the same. Timing has been checked and rechecked. any ideas? Also it dounds like a rocker is hitting on passenger side valve cover, but why would it only hit on the passenger side, these are 2nd set of valve covers that have done this, but stock valve covers don't do it.

It may be you wiped a cam lobe. If it's an exhast lobe, the valve won't open all the way and some pressure gets trapped then burps back out the intake when the intake valve opens. When I wiped a cam lobe on my 390, it did that then bent both pushrods and made a hell of a racket under the valve cover.
