ABS Light fixed! (2000 explorer)
I followed some of the tips on this forum. The sensor is easily removed with 1 10mm bolt. I tried disconnecting the battery and letting the computer reset. No luck! I tried to clean the sensor as someone recommended, but the abs light still stayed on. I even cleaned the front abs sensors, but no luck. I finally bought a new rear sensor, and presto! No more abs light.
I talked to the dealer, and they said that this is very common, and that it is usually the rear sensor that goes bad. (it is exposed to the rear axel gear oil and gets "gunked" up.) I believe the front sensors remain fairly trouble free.
Don't forget to disconnect the negative battery cable. I believe the computer needs to reset itself after the change.
This definitely classifies as an easy repair. You do need to jack up the rear end in order to get access under the vehicle. ( these explores sit fairly low to the ground) I had ramps.
Good luck.
