Zf trans diferences

I am needing sychros in a couple gears in my Zf in my 97 250 I know that in 97 there was a few changes I think there is an oil pump or something different but can't remeber. I think torgue rating were a little differnt to.

My question is I can find zf that go behind the diesel fairly common but is there a benefit to a specific year range. Will I hurt anything with a older model even a non powerstroke. I know not to use a gas because of gear ratios.

I am wanting to find another so I can rebuild it or run it while I redo mine so I will have less down time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

can only use one thats behind a powerstroke, the bellhousings are differnt on all the rest of them.

i need to find a good rebuilder myself its time. they need a ton of specialty tools to do.

all the ones behind the psd are supposed to be the same trans and theres no oil pump in them.

the 6 speeds have a pump and cooler on them.

Thanks that is what I was looking for I Know I sat down the other night and went through the manual on all of the speciatly tools and all the press work worry me a little because I only have a small 12 ton press that struggles with some things. But I can't find anyone locally that I really trust to do it yet. If any one knows a good rebuild shop that won't ream me on shipping or I can drive to I would greatly appreciate it.

I have tried three differnet fluids in mine now trying to shorten the time before I have to do this. Lastest i put in their is the redline mtl I was hesitate on putting it in there because it wasn't a ATF It helped a little but is still bad in third and fourth. Thanks for the advice had heard bad about them before. Would really like to take it to someone I can talk to face to face and will dyno test it before I get it back. But that is very hard to find.
