Opinions, questions, comments anyone? I rather like it. I used "high temperature" grille paint. Was supposed to be flat black but turned out rather glossy. My painting skills aren't the best (I leave that to others in auto shop), but this turned out quite nicely, much better than the ugly peeling grey you can see in my gallery. What you guys think?
I like it! The only thing keeping me from doing that to mine, is mine is the XLT and I don't want to mix the chrome with black, etc. I won't even put a billet grille on there to avoid conflicting schemes.
RangerRaider, I was intent on it but I can't find "Ice Blue" anywhere. Nobody seems to stock it and I'm not dishing the money out to have it professionally painted.
One of my buddy's dad is a professional painter, works at a hot rod shop, I'm hoping he can track down the correct color.
Nate, mine's an XLT as well...black is the old color I would dare mix with the blue and chrome. Nothing really goes with chrome well, and there's a lot of chrome with the headlights and clear corners...
willie that would be pretty funny, people seem to find that a good prank around here lol.
It makes a nice contrast and it looks good. It would be nice to see what it would look like in the "ice blue" you can't find though. I have the same problems finding touch up paint for my 90 and 91 Rangers that are different shades of red. Don't like thinking about having to pay for a special paint mix just for small parts or touch up. That's nuts. But a complete repaint in a newer oem color is easier to think about.
I'd actually have my whole truck repainted but it was in an accident and was repainted in early August of last year I believe. Maybe late July. I really like the color (it was this same color before repainting).
See if you have a Superior Paint store (or really any other paint supply for that matter). Superior took my paint code and mixed up a spray can for me for $8.00. I used it to paint miscellaneous pieces on my 98 Ranger. Might be worth looking into...
Looks nice RP. Redboat painted his with some kind of black "crinkle" paint that looked cool as well...his turned out with a kind of texture almost like spray in bedliner, but looked really nice. Everything on my truck is Black or Red (I really need to take some pix and post them) and I have been wanting to do the same to mine....I think between your pix and what I saw reboat do to his I need to get off my @$$ this weekend and do mine. Looks very nice man -
Grill looks good ..... now do something about that beat-up license plate, a frame or something. On both my last two Rangers, I moved the front license up 2" with an adapter I made (I think it is in my gallery)..... it looks better and doesn't get beat up.
stock item from NYBCO in aerosol cans. Just keep a hair dryer around so when it gets to the final tacky to the touch point you can use the hair dryer to get the wrinkle finish the way you want it.
PS Next time use SEM Matte Black aerosol-flat black with no shine. Made for trim and bumpers.
