My wife is a CSR at an art print company, she handles only US accounts. Anyway, she gets us good art for cheap, sometimes free. I went with her to a couple trade shows in Vegas, and while she worked, I perused, made notes, and gave her the item numbers of the stuff I liked.
Takes her a while to get it for me, but the last time, I ended up with 4 prints of martini glasses with "pinup style" girls in or on the glasses.
There's also one I've been trying to find for a few years now, but it's of a 65 vintage fastback Mustang going down the drag strip, and there's supposedly a bump in the track where it gets about a foot of air time. The picture is from the rear, as it is still up in the air. Anyone know the title so I can pass it on?
Interesting stuff. Not too sure about the Fabio-looking guy though....
I'm a graphics guy by trade so I guess to a "real" artist I'm kind of a sellout. I like to sketch and paint, but really enjoyed the metalsmithing and sculpture classes I took.
A lot of the "artsy" types I met in school actually weren't too bad, but maybe since it was a state school we didn't attract the really high-brow people. Probably a good thing.
Abstract art can be great, but I have more respect for an abstract artist if I know they're capable of realistic work also. Some aren't.
Just being obnoxious - some people call a chopper with a wild paint job - art. That lies with the person observing. I like wildlife photos, and I have been referred to as a camera nerd. The nice thing about doing free-lance work is that at a wedding the photographer has free access to all - and all the cake and 'punch you want.
