I'm ready to by the epoxy primer but don't know if there are any pros and cons or whatever to look for. Any brands to stay away from or that are real good? I see Sherwin Williams makes some as well. Any help here would be appreciated, and what is a reasonable price?
thanks
used PPG epoxy primer on 2 trucks...liked the product...appied over Vari Prime (self etch zinc rich primer)...great coating over steel. Like the mult colors it comes in....black, blue, red...
$$$$ All chemicals have went up 35 - 40% this year!!! Part 1 chemical is about 40 a quart.
Will need Part A, Part B (activator) and a qt of urethanne reducer to thin the primer.
Would look to PPG, Sikkens, Dupont. PPG has an Omni line that has an epoxy primer for cheap money. have used it on an aluminum body with no problems. about 1/2 price of ppg primer.
Sherman Williams makes a good product line. I put some epoxy primer on my
truck bed and did not color or top coat it just to see how durable
it was. It is in its third year and still holding up.
I've been told that in the south the pro-shops are big
on Sherman Williams but what they purchase may be different than
what you get retail through NAPA.
I'm now leaning to trying Rust Bullet as both my rust encapsulator and primer. I'm going to bare metal and there are only a few spots on the cab with mild rust. Unfortunately no one I know has done it, but there promo materials show some who did. I used some on a basketball post and a small part of my frame last year to see how it seemed and so far so good.
