Boy, them FoMoCo folks are sure proud of that neutral safety switch they make for our trucks--$75 list, $55 from Pep Boys or Big A. The $20 headlight switch looks more complicated to me.
Yeah, but there's always the chance of the wife or a kid jumpin' in it sometime and anyway, I'd just as soon fix it right. It's old but I'm figuring on keeping it for a while.
When My safety switch broke I just installed a momentary toggle switch in its place. works great, you just have to pull the switch every time you need to start the truck. also keeps people who don't know about the switch from starting it. the only thing is you won't have any back-up lights, unless you wire them to a toggle too.
I think most people are in a habit of cranking a truck/car in park now that not having the switch really isn't much of a problem.
If my truck becomes uncranked (when cold) I think it's kinda nice to be able to hit the starter while rolling, rather than to have stop, park, and refire.
