It's the fourth of july, so happy fouth. A friend of mine recommened me to this site, i'm at his house and he owns the same thing as me, except he modded it a bit (too much). anyway. this is my first post and i have a question. what kind of connector is the 97 ranger 4x4 for the radio. i want to get a radio/casset/cd/mp3 player. here is what i'm looking at, it's from jcwhitney. ZX264175. can you all tell me if it will work without doing serious changes to my dash, and wiring. i also have permium sound, which is cool, because i found a amp from the factory in my truck . i also plan on putting in these really nice speakers ZX077358Y from jcwhitney also, want to order them at same time. i don't want to put out too much moneyu for this, but really the factory system just isn't up to par. also, is it good to be running a turbo on a 4.0 ranger, i think it will only take up space and slowly kill my engine. are they safe?
oh yea, i'm looking at these toyo tires, tell me whta you think about them, recomend them for off roading? the way it we run off road, my freind has all the power and everything but babies his truck almost more than his girl. so we use my truck for the real 4x4, plus he needs new hubs or something (love manual hubs). any way, i want to run the open country M/T's for off roading, and slopping around in mud and snow, friend runs A/T and say they run great, but want to refference for the m/t, not looking for a super quite tire, but dont want to be hearing only tire either. how many miles should i expect, how do they handle in snow on the ranger, and is c range the best choice, and do they get like rock solid toward the end of thier life. need new tires to make it past inspection next month, and these are sounding pretty good.
I think you may have a bit of trouble trying to get a full double din radio in a Ranger opening. I would opt for someone that still sells 1.5 din radios. A buddy (in a '99 Ranger) of mine had some possibilties but they were about 2x+ the cost of the one your thinking of on JC Whitney.
As for your wiring... you should be able to find a wiring harness adapter to fit into your factory harness and flying leads to connect to your new stereo... what ever that may be. In the JC Whitney catalog they list one as p/n: ZX475796T
As for the Turbos and the Tires.... you want to start up seperate threads on those items. Everyone is looking at the existing title dealing with audio and no one knows about the other questions unless they are coming in to look....

This is a friend of mine, we have simialr vehicals, both 1997 Supercab rangers. he has the 3.0L and is only 2wd and is an auto i think, but the sound systems are the same, we both want to change out the radios we found a 1.5 DIN ZX283538 jcwhitney. but niether of use can figure out how to pull his sterio out. mine didn't come with a radio, so i made a frankenstien radio, and it is really is crappy so, we are going to get the same systems. can someone tell us how to pull the old one out.
On the '97, I believe you still had to use the "Ford Radio Removal" tools, that should utilize a set of holes on either side of the radio. Most well equipped car audio and autoparts stores should carry them. Directions are fairly simple.
Crutchfield is a really good place to order stereo's from, and speakers, thier prices are good. They will also tell what componets will fit your year ranger. They also carry adapters harnesses, or anything else you would need. I would not put a turbo on a 4x4, it's to easy when offroading to suck up some water, mud, or dirt, and there goes your turbo. In my opinion, the best offroad tire is BF GOODRICH, MT, OR AT.
Thanks wendell, and i looked at the bf's but i can get a buy 3 get one free deal on the toyo's. anywho one finnal question if your off roading over a weekend, what should you take like fluids, parts, and other stuff. i want to go, but dont want to get caught with my pants down.
Frstaid kit, recovery straps, highlift jack, tire repair kit, electric aircompresor, water, tool box, duck tape, oil, and most important, a cell phone, Do not go by yourself, let family, and friends know the ares where you'll be wheeling at.
The factory AM/FM CD player in the 2006 Rangers sound great just the way they are, and have plenty of power(140watts). That's quite a bit for a regular cab.
Well, i'm not really into getting a new truck, the funding just isn't there. the stock radio in my truck doesnt decode the radio signals too well. it always sounds a bit staticy. so i figure i'ld get a new reciever. plus i wanted one that could play cd's and wma/mp3 files.
Porblem sloved. just bought two kits from crutchfield. now i have to wait for them to come. it's got everything needed, radio, mounting brackets, harness, instructions, tools.

i wish i wouldve knew about these babies before i put in my new radio... i literally pryed it out with a screwdriver.. and stupid me, i also didnt get a wirering harness, splicing is never fun... i an surprised my radio even works.
lol, thx wendell. i got them from crutchfield just like you said. i live in pa, so they should be here by the weekend! maybe i can test mine out at the "family" reunion. it's just a big party my cousins have out in some fields.
