This may sound a little dark side, but what parts can be interchanged between 48-52 Ford trucks and say... newer model vehicles? This is open to anybody I'm just looking for help when I go junkyarding and I don't know where I'd find a parts interchange manual. I just know its hard to find cheap NOS parts and its hard to find donor trucks in my area.
I heard that the rear bumper brackets are the same up till 72. This means that if you go in looking for 48-50 you will pay in excess of 200 bucks if you ask for 70's ones you will likely pay much less. I got mine for around 65.00 a side.
I also heard that the rear ends from the later trucks say up to 1956 will fit in with ease as well. But I am not sure. I went with a 9inch and had it built. Also if you have time a lincoln Vercelles rear end with fit nice and offers up massive rear discs and a perfect rear end gear. best of all I got mine for 50 bucks and change.
You can use the GM rotors and calipers from a 80's-90's astro van on the 48-51 front axle if you have a bracket to replace the backing plate and mount the calipers.
If you are going for a T-5 trans behind a flathead it was common that a Pinto supplied the torque converters
This is a really great thread. I look forward to hearing more about what others have found works!! I will too if I remember more!!
There's already quite a bit of cross-reference material available on Earl's World and John Niolon's FTE pages. They aren't a list per se but when you look at (for example) windshield wipers, there is a list of what current parts can be adapted.
There is also a "sticky" somewhere for 48 - 56 for rear axles for same. (9"-ers from F-150's thru 1972 have the same bolt pattern, as I recall).
Spend some time with the search feature (search based on what piece you are looking for) and I'll bet you'll come up with a good bit of what you need. Most of the newer stuff doesn't literally bolt in, but can be adapted with varying amounts of effort.
