1. Between the battery tray on the left and the right? Is the left for a V8 and the right is for a 6 cyl?
2. Between the engine under cover on the left and on the right? I'm guessing they are for different years. Also, what is the proper part name?
3. Between these front fender splash guards...
...and these? Note the greater curvature in one splash guard above compared to the same side splash guard in the picture below. Different years?
Lastly, anyone else's storage or garage look like this?? This is at my storage. Ran out of room at the house. Brought more parts from a parts run earlier that day to store there. The frame for my '51 Panel is burried in there somewhere.
1. 6's had the battery on the driver's side, V8's on the pass.
2. The one on the right has two bulges near the radiator, so I'd guess it's a V8. But I have seen so many different styles of these It's purely a guess. I don't have one for mine.
3. Looks like a left and a right?
4. No help here, mine looks like the un-curved one. Could the curve just be from someone bending it to get it off?
I've had to store stuff before, it sucks! Everything you need ends up being at the storage locker, and of course your storage is about 5 miles/ 1/2 hour away, right?!

2. What you say might be true.
4. The curve is definately original. It doesn't look modified at all. I have three sets of the splash guard and only one has the deep curve.
Storing does suck and you are right, my storage is about 20-30 minutes away.
#2: I haven't seen the one on the right before, but the one on the left (lower splash pan i call it, not sure what the real name is) is identical to one I had on my '51 F1 and have no reason to believe it's not stock. I destroyed it though (truck slipped off the jack) and replaced it with one from ebay, identical except missing the large hole, and seller said was for an F1 but no years given.
#3: I pulled a set identical to these (including the curve on the one side but not the other) off of an '51 or '52 F5 dump truck that has been parked at least 20 or 25 years. They are the only ones I've seen in person. Have seen both kinds on ebay but they seem rare.
#5: I am just starting to clear out my disaster area since I've finished the truck. I am not organized at all and don't have much extra room so I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to this.
After a much more careful look at the two pictures under #3, I see that the mounting holes are in different locations between both sets. The set with one curved splash guard came out of a '48-50 F1. The other set I bought on eBay advertised for an F1, but unknown year.
The splash guards on my '52 look like the black and rusty set as shown in the second picture of #3.
So what's the story on using the belly pans? I have never seen anyone using one in modern times on a driver, just show cars. Is there any advantage? The disadvantages are clear enough, with the exhaust going thru it, I'm sure the pans were sawed or snipped in half the first time you wanted to get at the engine!
By the way, I think I was wrong on #2; the exhaust drops thru on the wrong side for a V8.
The hole in the splash pan is for the crankcase breather tube. The pan is just bolted to the frame rails. They are still used on some new vehicles. My dad's 1997 jetta has one. The splash guards in the second picture look exactly like the ones on my '51.
2. The one on the right looks just like the one that came off of my '52 M1 with the flathead V8. The large hole is for the road draft tube to pass through.
The pans were not even a replacement part from new. The Illustrations Catalog shows them on pages 183 through 187, Section 66, under reference #6775. I found it before in the Text book but can't find it now. But remember it shows that the 6775s were not stocked as replacement parts. So go find an old one. I got one from Chuck4850 and learned that the Marmon-Herrington factory cut out a triangle from the draft hole back to allow it to clear the front M-H axle.
