I have a 1982 F350. Some of you guys might remember me, and all the trouble I had with it. I finally bought a diesel....
Anyway, my truck had a rear sump pan, and I paid for a rear sump block ( I checked this), but got a front sump block, and didn't catch the hole. No wonder my alternators were only lasting a few hundered miles....
What do I do now? Does the front dipstick mount underneath to the bearing cap like the one I put in? I only have maybe a thousand miles on this engine. I called the parts store, but have not pressured them to replace it yet, but they have given me no better solutions yet either.....
I'm a little lost here. I think you put a rear sump pan on and have the dipstick in the pan, then, you found oil blowing out the front of engine and found a hole for a dipstick there. I think this is what is being said. I would either plug the front hole or go to boneyard and get a dipstick off a car and install it. Rear sump or front sump pick ups only refer to the oil pump pick-up location, and do not effect the dipstick. Good Luck
OK, you are right. I thought that the dipstick and the sump are the same thing. Don' the dipsticks mount in the crankcase?? What kind of plugs are available for this?
I think napa has plugs like frost plugs that small. Just check out your parts store and see what they offer, don't forget to put sealer around plug before install. Second dipstick wont get you throwed out of the watering hole either. Easier solution I think and may come in handy later. Good Luck
