Back-Up Alarm Inoperable

I searched the forums hoping to find some info on this problem but may have been using the wrong terms to get the results. Anyhow, I didn't find anything.....

My '02 F-350 SD Lariat came equipped with the back-up alarm sensors. I've already realized that the tailgate will set it off and that they need to be clean to work properly (they are clean).

My problem is that it's been rendered inoperable and I don't know why or how to repair it.

Aside from no sounding any alarms, the lamp on the dash is always lit. I can turn it off by hitting the button a couple of times but it comes back on immediately when it's put in gear.

I can't find any labeled fuse for this function and really am at a complete loss as to how to correct it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you'll need to take to the dealer for repair. There is a bad module or sensor causing this. The same problem happened to wifes 03 explorer. It didn't get fixed till I traded it in. This forum appeared about 2-3 weeks ago. You might try a search on reverse sensing system.

Darn...that's what I was afraid of. Taking my truck back to the dealer for me is like admitting defeat...LOL!

I will try searching using better terminology.

I appreciate the reply and the heads up on what to search for.

Nothing found that gives any hints or answers at all....just posts asking questions.

So does anyone know anything about this system? What all is involved in it and where things are located?

I'd prefer to troubleshoot this myself if possible.

Why the attitude?

I must have mistaken this place for somewhere people go to get self-help on such things.

There's not much use for it if the standard answer is take it to a dealer.

Well, I got someone to give me a pretty in-depth overview of this system on another Ford message board.

A test of the sensors with an ohm meter showed one was not functioning (actually sending incorrect signal as a result).

So I purchased one from the Ford stealership, replaced it, and it's back online.

If you call that a good answer or a correct one.

And you left-out this:

you'll need to take to the dealer for repair
Wonder why?

Anyone knows that there was something broken like a module or sensor...anyone could tell you that. I knew that already.

Just as anyone could say take it to a dealer. I also knew I could do that already. That's a no-brainer. Why bother coming here to hear what a butcher or barber could tell you?

Look, I asked a question. I was polite and all I got was an attitude in return.
