Was not sure which forum to post the question: 65 F100 with 70 302. Installed Edelbrook performer 4bl intake manifold. Shop manual Spec's indicate 20-22 ft. lbs.. So far, have torqued to about half, 10 ft. lbs. and not sure who much further willing to torque the aluminum intake. Thought would check and see if anyone has found a torque value for the intake manifold. Any info. or suggestions would be appreciated.
Dave Back when I was installing a ( RPM ) on a 351/w I called the tech line
for Edelbrock intakes and I was told for 302-351/w 15-18 ft/lbs and I wrote
it down so what garbz said is correct, I torqued mine at 15 ft/lbs.
Bought intake several years back from swap meet. Went to Edelbrook web site and took # of their tech department. Called and got # had been disconnected. When find time will recheck, likely wrote the number wrong. In past, torqued till it felt good. Engine is a fresh rebuilt and machine shop has so many disclaimers on the warranty, did not want any issues coming up. In one of those mind sets where decided wanted to go with torque spec's anyhow. Garbz and Wally took fiqure where your minds met and torqued to 15 ft. #'s. Using the back yard mechanic torque sence, the 15 ft. lbs. felt good. Thanks for the input, appreciate it.
Back in the day....BTW.... Before torque wrench... I used the feel method. a 9/16th wrench and pulled till it felt right..LOL.. worked every time.
Then again i have used a torque wrench and snapped the **** off of an offenhauser six banger manifold...there is no sound like it. TINK.......@#^!&&^%#@A get out the TIG and weld it back together.....
Can relate. Snapped one of the bolts attaching the pressure plate to flywheel using the torque wrench. Fortunately, easy out worked with no problem. Got it running with no leaks, that's a first, think following torque spec's and tighning secquence worked. Now only have to dial in dwell. Installed DuraSpark electronic ign. and removed the old mark which believe was around 12 degrees, have it set to where it sounds right and seems to be around 16 degrees. Intend to put timing light on it today and see what it's running at. Manual says to refer to 'decal' from manufacturer, which is a lot of help. Appreciate the input.

For a base timing Dave i do the seat of the pants method also.
I give it as much advance untill it pings under load then back off a tad. I scratched my head for a few hours one day timing a 300 that had a slipped balancer.....I knew i was at TDC on number one but the timing marks were straight down. the light was usless on that engine...LOL
