hi guys...I found out s few weeks back that I need a new injector for the #8 cylinder in my 2000 7.3. I have read that the #8 cylinder uses a different injector for some reason or other, but also have read that the odd injector wasn't applied till 2002. also wondering the best place to get a reman injector...anyone have any knowledge about this??...thanks....scott
Yes, I have heard it is a different injector as well. Only reason is to quiet it down some. I believe the number 6 piston fires just before it, drops the oil pressure rail then #8 fires with lower oil pressure. I think the differnt "long lead" or something like that, is supposed to fire quieter with the reduced oil. There are several people that have added a HPX line to equalize the oil pressure in the heads, reducing the amount of cackle that is created. As far as buying a reman one, I don't know, another person was on here looking to replace one injector as well and had many suggestions. I am sure someone else in the Know will chime in.
I installed the HPX on my 02 and didn't find a significant quieting of the engine. I DID find that the engine now surges, vroom, vroom, vroom on cold starts where it didn't before. I have enough miles on it to be sure there is no trapped air any more. Is is possible that the HPX balanced the pressure, but screwed up the reduced pressure that the #8 cylinder injector was expecting? If someone has an answer I'd appreciate it; otherwise when I get a chance I'll pull off the HPX and see if the surging goes away.

I've never heard the HPX line cause that problem. I understand your troubleshooting logic but i'd look elsewhere. How's your motor oil condition?
Level? Type? Maybe foaming? The HPX line allows the ICP sensor to now sense
the pressue of the entire oil galley feed rails to the injectors. This in turn allows
for smoother running.
Just my .02.

My 2000 has a different injector in #8. I haven't seen it out of the head, but when I had the valve cover off replacing the wiring harness, I did notice that it had different numbers on it and was a different color, if I remember correctly. I have seen these injectors for sale on ebay. That might be a place to look. You might get lucky....

About 3500 miles on Rotella 15-40, level is full and oil pretty clean, been doing it for about 3 months, 2500 miles since I put the HPX on. Not likely foaming at cold start. Only romps about 3 times, then ok till next cold start. Not a crisis but a puzzle. I thought it might be air at first, but not after all this time. Just checked it after sitting for a week,100 degrees oiutside this afternoon. Three little romps, then a nice smooth idle. Don't care about the romps if it doesn't indicate something else wrong.
