Need an overdrive

I have been considering all the options (gearvendors, us gear, zf,... etc.) I think that the GV is probably the best option however I can't afford it. Therefore, I believe the zf to be a good alternative. I understand that if it is from a diesel it will bolt directly to the 6.9. The information that I am looking for regards ease of installation. For instance, is the zf longer than the t-19? This would of course mean that the driveshafts would have to be altered, if so by how much. What about crossmember mounting... Does the xmember need to be relocated or just re-drilled to fit the zf. Will the shifter come through the floor pan ok or will that need to be altered? I also read on a very old thread on this forum that the balance might be an issue... something about needle bearings in the zf which lead to the dual mass flywheel being used. Incidentally I plan on using the single mass flywheel and clutch setup from LuK. Anyway, if someone has done this swap or has information please lend a hand. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

winchester73,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

I have seen several that were easy swaps, and several that were PIA swaps.

There are two ZF 5 transmissions that were used behind the diesel, an S 42 and an S 47.
