Mud drags rule.
So, thought I'd throw out a brief report on the Willimina drags yesterday. Skipped_link and his buddy came down for the races and wowed the Oregon crowd. I'm sure he'll post up some video from the run, there were many fierce competitors this year. Although it was almost funny that the one really hairy roll/endo was a girl racing her dads truck in the powderpuff class, those chicks were getting it! I was bummed that I was gimped out and on a cane and unable to race as planned, but Skipped_link did a good job of Ford representing. He lost a bead on the passenger rear bogger upon launch near the tail end of the races resulting in him taking home only the second place trophy and purse
Heres a pic after that run, big surprise we're bothing hamming it up:
After we rolled up to my place for some victory drinks. Skipped_link remarked "pictures don't do it justice, you don't realize how BIG that is untill you see it in person" when he saw my truck. I kinda chuckled because Ivan had said the same thing the first time he saw it. I think I'd rather hear the ladies utter that statement, but whatever works
Speaking of big rigs, I have to say I've never seen a better level of fabrication than is displayed on the '49. Truly impressive, a show quality mud bogger. Mad props to Skipped_link for the nicest Ford I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. So, speaking of victory drinks the rum had started flowing and somehow everybody ended up with markers in their hands, and the next thing you know all of Ivan's rims on the Capt'n now look like this:

Good times were had by all!

Good job Skipped I still want a chance to see that truck run in person, but I know it's too far out this way for you, and there isn't enough out that way for me to make the trip, nor do I have enough vacation in the summer to make it work out. But I bet someday we find one that is in between that both rigs can run in. Not that I figure I stand a chance of coarse but would still be a good time I am sure.
by the way skipped your truck happens to be the prettiest mud truck i have ever seen.

Thanks for the pics Pro. my79f and I were just talking about yalls trucks. We were working on our trucks to get ready for some mud boggs down here and my79f compared my truck to Robs. To which I quickly replyed, I'm not in the same universe as him. And we went on to talk about your truck and Ivans and skipped's. We sure would like to come play some day, but it'll probably never happen. But we sure enjoy yalls videos, so keep up the good work.

Man I wish I could have made it down there to watch the races. I've just had too much damn work lately. Probably for the best though, I got sick and spent yesterday puking all over the place. That probably wouldn't have made for a pleasant drive home.
chrono,
cool man! you are close to where my girl goes to skool (UGA) so we'll have to hook up sometime when i am visiting!

buuuuuuuuuutttttt wwwhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaatttttt??????????
The first run that you will see is my first pass, which is a by run, I figure out 2 things in this run, 1) I have no second gear, 2) a 200 ft trak is way to long for my truck, even without 2nd gear the truck still goes way to fast, Any way, you'll see I take it fairly easy at first, then crank it up pretty good, I tried shifting to second and it did not work, so I let off hoping second will stick but it didn't,
The next part of the vid is the semi finals, and aside from no second gear the run went pretty well, that is till the truck got up to speed and the ruts were getting the better of me, I did have to back out of the throttle to make sure the truck went home in one peace,
Next is the last run, running against the same truck as before, this time I knew I could not run with him in the top end so I wanted to get the advantage right off the line, but while getting the truck stalled up you will see it creep forward, I focused on not red lighting and in doing that he got the jump, so then I got a little eager with the throttle, pulling the nose up and forcing me to let off, after getting back on the throttle I could tell the truck was handleing & pulling funny, and by then there was no chance of catching the other truck, I did not realize I had spun a tire off the bead until I was almost back to the trailer,
Well, here is the vid,

All excuses & BS aside, in 200 ft, I don't know that I could have outrun that truck anyway, But I still had a great time,

It looks like it just spun off the bead, a rachet strap & a little air & it was back to normal,

Don't be so sure, I don't think I would want to line up with your ranger in front of a 200 ft pit, now cut it back to 100-150ft, then things could get interesting,

The truck gets a little rougher ever event, but all in all, it is holding up well, considering the debris that is being thrown at it,

I told Pro about my dads plasma cam, if you want a Perminant "rim job" I could hook you up,
I would like to thank Pro & his wife for the place to crash, the tastefull drinks, & food in our bellies,
I plan on going again next year, hopfully a few more of us can hook up next time,
Man those vids do make me wish I could make it out there though, that track didn't look too bad, and looks like a lot of fun. Maybe I will just have to find a way to get out there and have some fun with this little ranger of mine.
I can so relate to not having second gear, thats been my problem all year hopefully I will get mine back when I finally get this trans back together if I can ever get the parts situation resolved.
And of coarse still would be great if you can make it this way sometime, I am sure we can find plenty of room to put you up, and even have a place less than a mile from my house you can buy methonal for that beast. And if we aren't racing on a saterday evening we can always head up to knoxville and watch the outlaw sprint cars (just don't come during nationals, you are too late to buy tickets and almost too late to buy them for next year.) Nothing like the smell of methonal burning, and even though they are small block chebbies nothing like hearing an engine twist 10,000rpm while pulling the left front tire off the ground in a corner going backwards around it.
Edit BTW because of how wild the truck can get in the longer tracks is exactly why I just lowered my truck by 2" to make it more stable.
