I seen in the other thread 66 that you had used one of these before. Did you find that it was reasonably sturdy? I am looking into getting one to keep rain and mice out of an old vehicle I have that Im going to store for awhile, and dont have much options for storage! Anyone else have any experience with these at all?
From what I understand, these kind of buildings from the way they are built are considered temporary, or movable and there is no property taxes paid on them. We have a coverall at our shop and it has held up well, been there longer than I have.
My neighbour bought about a 12 x 24 portable garage for around $200 at Costco. Looks ok, will have to check in on it next year to see how it stands up.
My brother-out-law had one of the type that has pipe hoops with a tough fabric cover. He put it up in Mammoth lakes, had a wood stove in it, and they get massive snowfall up there. It lasted about eight years and I would have to say that it was abused. The cover fabric finally failed because of years in the sun and then about 12 feet of snow. So I thought that was pretty good, but it was a lot more money than the Costco job.
Mine came from Inland plastics here in Saskatoon. At 842 56Th st. ph 931-1122 or www.inlandplastics.com Mine cost about $600 + The one I have here is 11x 20 in size.
Had a big winds on Friday and it still stands. My mother had it first and it blew down in a wind storm, But she had the front door not installed on it. So the wind came right inside and lifted it. So with out the door that caused her problem. Now I have it and put it up right. They have about 18" flap along the bottom that you can also anchor or weight down. It is easy to assemble. I di it alone, but recommend have a friend help putting the canvas over.
The other thing is if you put it up in a city or town, some have bylaws on them. Saskatoon has a by law about them here that they are not to be used in residential areas. Yet I see people have them up for their motorhomes and campers.
I do not think it will keep mice out. They are not meant to hold a lot of snow on them. They warn about that in the manual on assembly. They even show planns to further anchor them down for strong winds.
I hope to use it many years. At the cost it cost me right now is way cheaper than a garage being built for now. So if you cannot afford a garage this would be the way to go. They are not meant to be work shops in the winter, no place to put a heater.
