I am about to do my first oil change on my 06 f250 superduty 6.0. After reading how to change the engine oil in the tech section that says
"Our experience has found that 13.5 quarts is all that is necessary to replace. Approximate 1.5 quarts of oil stay in the high pressure reservoir" I am just wondering how many quarts other people's trucks have neaded to complete an oil change?
Mine holds 15Qts. Puts it right at the top of the Max line on the Bulb on both the 05 & 06!!
The second change I let one of my employees change the 05 & 06 I supervised the 05 and let him do the 06 he put 16Qts in it. Put 10,000 on it before the next change and I didn't have any problems!!
My '06 took exactly 15 quarts to get the level just below the maximum line on the dipstick. After reading about problems with anything over 14 quarts giving high oil levels on 03 and 04 engines, I was careful not to add to much.
I put in 13.5 qts per the tech folder procedure and it brings the oil level 3/4 up the hash marks (measuring with the oil temp cold). Good enough for me.
I have put as little as 13 qts and as much as 14 to reach the same place on the dip stick(half way in the hash) on different oil changes which leads me to believe the system doesn't drain the same amount every time. I am never in a hurry when changing oil so leave it drain for a while every time. Does any one know what traps the most oil?
I now have 50k miles, first three oil changes were done by the dealer, because they were free at 3k miles intervals. Now I change it myself at 5k miles intervals, and 13.5 quarts seems to do the trick. After the dealer changed the oil, I did have rough running conditions, and found out that the tech was putting 16qts.
13 quarts should be start point. I do not know if the same conditions are still persistant in the 05 06 MY trucks, but the 03/04 were having foaming issues. Which were believed to be causing some, not all of the injector problems, and some other driveability issues. Everyone was advised to run the oil to the add mark only, not in the middle and not to the full mark. Everyone pretty much found that 13.5 was perfect on many trucks. Although my 03 took 14, maybe I was letting it drain longer than most. Bottom line, running on the add mark when cold, puts it right in the middle when hot. I have yet to have an issue in my 03 (when I owned it) or in my 05.
Hi, does anybody know where you can buy a 36mm socket. I am trying to remove the oil filter cover on a 6.0L diesel power stroke. I thought home depot would have had it.
