What would FTE do?
Needless to say, we have a jet black pipe fence running around our place now.

As for the comment earlier about HOAs taking homes away from those deeply in debt to the assn, but still receiving all the benefits. We are about ready to start putting leans on some homes that are getting close to 2 grand in debt. By NOT doing that, and allowing people to just not pay, would set a legal precident and pretty soon nobody would have to pay. Might as well paint each unit rooster dink pink after that.
I see this hoa stuff's brought up again. There was a whole huge thread about HOAs and the people who have no clue about how good ones operate. You only hear about the whackos and then brand the rest of us as **** retentive ****'s. Horsefeathers. Before ya whine about something, know what you are talking about and don't generalize that we are all the same.
Everyone has a choice as to buy into one or not. If you buy in, sit down, and participate or don't complain. If you are unable to live by the rules, sell and move out. Quickly. Your rights are no better than mine or the others who live here. And I make that clear to everyone, every letter I send out, so that people will know where "every dime" of THEIR money is going. We seldom have a quorum to vote. So it takes a couple months to even be able to vote on anything. But I've also told 'em. Especially the newbies. I'm going to do whatever it takes to make this organization work and continue to work, to keep our property values up and our property looking good. If they don't like what we are doing, they can come to meetings and put their vote in. Maybe for the first time in all the years I've lived here, we could even have a quorum once.
They proudly park their BMWs, $50K trucks in their driveways and keep their swiming pools full during our drought though.
Pretty
by my way of thinking.

Personally, I have less use for a HOA than I have for what my dog deposits on my lawn daily. Knowing that, I've always told my real estate agents (I've purchased 3 homes so far) not to waste my or their time showing me anything in a HOA. Worked out very well for me so far. The only neighbor who ever had a problem with me (his problem, not mine
) moved away. I'm way to GDI to allow anyone to tell me what to do on my property if they aren't at my front door every month with a check for the mortgage.
