I've got a 4.6 Windsor and I didn't have to mess w/ my AC. I'm pretty good w/ mechanical stuff so I didn't even consult a repair manual. I figured if I ran into a problem I'd search/post on here.

I replaced my heater core (99 F-150) without draining the air conditioner last winter, and everything is working fine. You just have to be careful around the lines since they are under pressure.

You can do it without putting a vampire on the AC system. Leave it charged and carefully remove your dash.

cool thanks everyone. i was hopeing. i didnt want to pay to have it evacked and refilled again when it works fine thanks again. i havent pulled the dash apart to look . i just finished putting a motor in the truck it had a blown head gasket and a rod knock i was hopeing that the rod knock niose was from the blown headgasket leaking between the 2 cylinders but i fixed the head prob and the rod knock was still there so i went out and bought a motor from a wrecking yard these motors are expensive i payed 1800 for a 4.6 romeo i could of gotten one out of a car for 600 but the cams are different and had to chang a few thing over and was told they dont produce as much tourk as a truck motor kelly
