Does anyone know if an FT block, just the block it self is different from an FE block?....and if it is close enough to use for a build, how much can I safely bore it out to?, I've heard of .080 being okay on some mirror 105 blocks, are the FT like that, or maybe even better about it?
You can check the cyl wall cores for thickness with drill bits. You need to remove the freeze plugs like you did on the C7 block. You will then see the outter cyl wall cores inside the block. If a 13/64" drill bit shank is a snug fit it has 428 wall cores. If a 17/64 drill bit shank fits snugly it has std 390 wall cores. You slip the drill bit shank between the cyls inside the freeze plug holes. Careful not to drop it!! LOL You might have to remove and scrape away some crap to get a good reading. You can also convert the 64"s to better suit your drill bits. But you get the basic idea. This is just a sinple field test but will tell you what cyl wall cores the block has. A sonic map will tell if the block is badly coreshifted or not and what overbore is possible.
well finding a 13/64's is gonna be hard as I am only at the house.....but I think I can find a 1/4 so looks like I have something to do now!, thanx for the info guys, tryin' to get my ducks in a row before I start trashin' the stuff I don't need, and pickin' up the new!
well sweet...I just tried a 1/4" extension, and the square end DEF. will not fit, I know the extension may not be 1/4 exact, but it doesn't fit, so my hopes are up for an overbore to 4.13 or so.......but I'll sonic check it first of course!
well of course.....but to give me a rough quesstimate, which is good enough at this point in the build....I have to wait till I get outa school to start it neways....
