Battery wiring??

Recently redid the wiring on my truck 74 F100 w/ 78 351m. The battery is not getting charged while engine is running. All my lights work but have to jump it to start. Wires off the battery : black to ground red to starter ( I dont have an external solenoid its on starter.) Only other wire running to the solenoid is from the ignition switch. Should there be a wire to the + term of the battery from the altenator?? Or is all that run through the voltage reg? Thanx

Your alternator output should connect to the + batt term, with an additional wire from
the batt + to the A+ term of the regulator. Does your system use an ammeter or an
indicator light to indicate charging?

Niether. All I have is an aftermarket voltmeter. I used a painless universal wiring kit.

Ok, then you don't use the I regulator term. Your STA lead on the alt should go to the
S regulator term, and the FLD alt lead should go to the F regulator term. These
should be connected only with the battery disconnected. Installing the regulator
with the battery connected will damage the regulator, and disable the alternator.
You may need to replace the regulator if it is already damaged. some parts stores
will test them for you, if you bring it in.

I think you made a mistake. If you are using a Ford alternator, and are not going to use the "I" terminal, then it should hook up like this;

If you are not going to use an electric choke, just leave the alt "S" terminal blank.
