Well this part of the forum's is usually for mobile audio/video, so you might get more responses if you posted over in "General Non-Automotive Conversation", but I have a Panansonic and like it, it's a DVD/VCR combo and can record from DVD to VHS and vice versa. How much are you willing to spend?

One that had a built-in harddrive that let you do some editing before burning would be nice. I'm tempted to suggest a DVD writer and a video capture card (Wintv PVR-150) for your computer, but it can be a PITA getting everything to work together. But if you ran PVR software like BeyondTV, that would make automatic recording very easy.
Then again, I think that some standalone DVD-recorders have PVR-like program guide features and stuff.
