Yesterday I bought an 88 F150 4x4 with a 1993 302 EFI in it. According to the guy it has a new crank, bearings, oil pump, timeing chain and gears and computer. The engine will run but will not idle, it floods out within seconds. If you push the accelerator all the way to the floor it will run but does not get up to full speed. If you try to let it idle it stalls in 10 seconds and you can smell gas all around the truck. I played around eith it tonight and found a vaccum line that was broken but that did not do anything when I capped it. Has anyone run into this type of problem??
No vac line should be capped! Where did it go?!?
Lack of vac to the MAP or fuel pressure reg would do it.
Check for vac leaks. There's also a "coffee can" vac reservoir behind the starting battery which rusts old as it gets old and makes a massive vac leak.
O2 sensor would do it too.
check fuel pressure at the rail. smell the oil dip stick for fuel, if fuel is present then let us know because you have some work ahead of you. pulling codes wouldnt hurt either www.fordfuelinjection.com has instructions on this process.
The vac line was for the heater. I just plugged it to see if that would get the motor running better. My 88 351 had multiple vaccum issues and when I saw that I hoped it would be a quick fix. But DANNYM is on to something with the 02 sesnor. It is not plugged in. But the only connection I see around there is another female connector. Is the 93 02 sensor a different fitting that the 88??
