someone help me with a problem. both turn signals work front and rear. problem is when i step on the brake the left turn signal stops blinking and the lights stay on until i let off the brake then they start blinking again, no problem on the right side. grounds are good. i have a 53 ford with the under cab brake setup and a electric brake light switch.

It sounds like you have a wiring problem with the column or the turnsignal switch has a problem.

What type of column or switch for the turnsignals do you have? The 53's did not have turnsignals originally.

You should have two sections to the turnsignal switch.

The front section is fairly simple. You have the common flasher signal coming in from the flasher, and the lever directs the flasher power to the front left or the front right light.

The rear section is more complex. You have two signals coming into the rear section. You have the same flasher signal coming in like the front section, but you also have the brake pedal switch signal coming into the rear section.

When the lever is in the center, the rear section of the switch connects both rear lights to the brake pedal switch signal.

When the lever is moved to the left for a left turn, the rear left light is taken off the brake pedal switch, and connected to the flasher signal. The right rear light is still connected to the brake pedal switch.

The opposite happens when the lever is moved to the right for a right turn.

So it sounds like there may be a wiring problem or the switch is bad. If the front section wiring somehow got mixed up with the rear section wiring, it would cause your problem. The brake pedal signal and the flasher signal would butt heads, and the flasher would quit working.
