Ignition switch on column bad?
The ignition switch on the steering column has been going bad for awhile. Being a project truck I didn't put much thought into it. Last week when I went out to start it up it turned over twice then nothing. The starter wasn't connecting. So I tried the solenoid and the starter still worked. I figured the ignition switch or column linkage went bad. The steer column is a tilt/cruise control and the tilt part has been going bad for awhile.
I pull the plastic cover off and found the ignition rod was still working which means the switch(s) are probably bad further down the column. Before I tear this truck apart to get to them, does this diagnosis sound right and what should I expect when I drop the column to access the bad parts?

With the lower cover off, turn the key to start and take some needle nose pliers and grab the rod and try to help it downward. If helping it downward makes the truck start, I would be suspicious that a mechanical part in the upper part of the column is broken. Here's a spot for lots more info.
