Anti-Sway Bars

Just received the latest issue of DieselPower magazine. There was a small feature article in it about sway bars for a chevy 2500hd. Call this place FredericoRacing.com to see if they had bars for my F-250 and was told they did. They said they make these bars for the US Boarder Patrol's new 06 F-250's.

Question is has anyone bought and installed a set of bars from frederico racing?

Did they make a difference??

Worth the money??

Pictures??

Thanks,
Jimmy

I can't comment on fredrico's products per se, but I am curious as to what kind of improvement you are looking for. (?)

Truck feels kind of sloppy when driving it like taking freeway entrances, but more so when I am towing my toy box. It is really wiggly in the rear end when towing. It is not even near its weight capacities and is no where near overloaded.

I drive a semi for a living and that is where I pull my experiences from.<O</O

In addition I noticed that most of the new trucks do not come with rear sway bars and the front bars on most are hollow. If they do come with sway bars they are tiny at best. Older trucks had big solid bars. The newer trucks have almost double the load capacities then that of years past and they are either making the bars smaller or just deleting them from the truck all together. The physics have not changed nor been deleted. So why have the bars? <O</O

It feels like they (manufacturers) are just trying to cut financial corners to me and sacrificing safety to do it. They do it with shocks too. Use to be the shocks on an OEM suspension would last a while. Now they are $5 junk. They assume that we are just going to upgrade the shocks anyway so why spend $30 a shock at the factory. I believe they are now doing that with the sway bars.<O</O

Sorry to ramble, I just want the truck to be safe when I have my family in it.

OK Jim, I see where you are coming from. We have people on this site that use their trucks in any number of ways and from what you are saying, sounds like you are on the right track with the sway bars.

Far be it from me to advise a semi driver though. Maybe you should post in the HD forums for more experienced responses.

I know that the anti-sway bars control body roll, but the 'wiggly' and 'sloppy' description makes me suspect there might be an actual defect. Have you done a really good undercarriage inspection to make sure everything is as it should be?

Good luck with the solution.

Do you use a leveling hitch?

Jim, try posting in the towing section. There are a guys the frequent there that may have answers for you. My opinion is you need a sway bar. Try scrounging the junk/salvage yards for a truck that already has a sway bar. Grab all the brackets and links and it should be a direct bolt-in. And probably FAR cheaper than a new set.

Be omitting a rear bar, the truck will tend to oversteer more. Ford is helping the "average" driver, who is unaccustomed to correcting oversteer.

But for folks who know how to drive, balnace is best, not profound understeer. So it's a bit more than just cost-cutting, though your point is well-taken.

Never heard of that company that you mentioned.
You may also want to consider Hellwig, they have a great reputation amongst the towing/heavy-duty crowd:

have you resolved your sway bar issues? If you have not purchased aftermarket stuff yet, I may be able to help, I have removed both the front and rear bars from my 2002 F-350. I believe we both reside in CA. I lifted my SD years ago, and removed both front and rear bars, brackets, links, everything.
Mine pulls a 36' Warrior straight as an arrow (except windy days) so I don't think I will ever use em again.
pm me if you think you might consider them.
