I was wondering if anyone might know what is going on with my truck. I have a 2001 F-350 with the 7.3 Power Stroke. It has a SuperChip programmer set at high performance and a K&N air filter system. Some days I get great throttle response, but somedays the response is somewhat sluggish. I get no trouble codes, oil and coolant are good, and I replaced the fuel filter back in January. A few months ago I was told that my MAP sensor was reading a little high, but it didn't need to be replaced. Any ideas.
Thanks,
Ron Wilkinson
My truck seems to pull the hardest just as it is warming up, but not quite to full temp. Maybe 175 degrees. Maybe something to do with the HPOP pumping thinner oil when it's warm?
Two items of advice:
1- Ditch the SuperChips and call Jody at DP Tuner for a flip chip.
2- Get rid of the K&N, these motors suck dirt through them a bit. The Ford AIS is really nice and can be had for about $200, the AFE Stage II is about 450 or so I think, and you can get a NAPA 6637 filter and put it on really cheap. That is what a lot of us have done. Online from Fleetfilter they are about $20 plus shipping.
Thanks guys for the help. I think I can talk my wife into the air filter, but not sure about another programmer. One thing that is funny is that if I reprogram for high performance I get consistent good throttle response for a few weeks. In the past this is what I would do. As for the pedal, I have noticed that when the response is lacking I have a little play in the pedal (about 1/2 inch) before the engine responds. On good days the engine responds with very little movement of the pedal. I'm going to get some of that canned air (for cleaning computers) to clean the connections. After reading the threads on the cam pos. sensor I think I will try cleaning those connections as well.
