Cat lovers?

Okay, so you guys have been a huge help with your input on "Who has gutted their cat"....
You talked me into just buying the MBRP cat delete pipe...Almost....
So here's my nitpicky question:
I've read that these turbo's need some back pressure, and the cat helps give that. I've heard that removing the cat might be bad for your turbo- maybe cause overspin/ damage/ or just bad performance without the backpressure that the cat can provide...
What do you think about that?

Anyone ever had any NEGATIVE effects to their turbo's or engine performance that you attribute to removing your cat?

Anyone know enough about this backpressure concern to share your input, regarding my concern?

I know somebody out there has got to be thinkin "Sheesh, this guy has GOT to just DO it!" but that's what this site is for, right? To share experience/ knowledge? I'm just wanting to know if any of you fellow 6.0er's any had negative effects of removing the cat before I push that "buy" button..

Thanks a TON for all of the great info that you guys have given so far...

chixdigit,

Lots of BS at lots of dealers, don't worry the back pressure thing is all smoke and mirrors etc. But you do have a potential problem the MBRP cat test pipe will not work on the stock system, you'll have to get an AFE one as they are designed to work ont he stock system. We have a hard time keeping them in stock!!!

Now if you're after lower EGT's do yourself a favor and get a system vs just a cat pipe. The system will lower your temps waaaay more than a cat pipe will, in fact you can leave the cat in place with a system and still lower the EGT's more than a cat pipe alone.

Thanks for the input Mark...
Are you referring to my intake?
Actually, I have the stock intake with the zoodad mod. I've been told that the stock intake on the 6.0's is a very good one, and with the zoodad, I am in the opinion that I am letting enough air into the system. Is this what you are saying I need to do- is get an intake like AFE or AirRaid?
From there, I already have the MBRP 4"Turbo back system... I'm sure that the cat-delete pipe would work with that- right?

we're getting instances after the voluntary recall of loss of power. A lot of these are ending up being cracks in the y pipe. The vehicles performance returns after replacement. If a crack will affect the backpressure sensor, wonder what a free-flowing exhaust changes?

I think a crack in the Y-Pipe would cause a loss of CFM to the turbine resulting in less work being done by the turbo's compressor.

Where is the EBP located? Before or after the exhaust turbine?

What do you think about that?
As I said in the last post, I have a Silverline 4" turbo back without the cat. Been driving it this way for 6000 miles. It's way better than the stock system! No problems running minus the cat. My truck runs a 1/4 mile drag strip everyother friday night for fun. I get in about 7 or 8 runs each time and push the EGT's close to 1600. No adverse affects without the cat at all. Lots of boost, no losses there. Not as much lag, quicker spinup.
Just buy the cat delete pipe, you won't regreat it. If you're that concerned, make sure that you keep the stock cat. You could always reinstall it later if you wanted to. I saved mine just in case there's any warranty issues. Although, I hate to think of the hours it would take to put all the stock components back on mine for a warranty issue. lol
