Bike,

Yes a crossflow would work. I have seen them mostly in trucks using a GM or other subframe where the original radiator support was not used. The problem is in finding one short enough to fit the radiator support. I had a brand new crossflow from a mid 80s Buick that I wanted to use but it was too wide to mount horizontally and too tall to mount vertically (I've seen them mounted both ways). If you could find a compact crossflow that would fit the confines of the radiator support it would work great. Crossflows have better circulation than down flow radiators.

I went the other way and set mine as high as possible without having to re-work the floor. I wanted to use a mechanical fan and be able to drop the pan without pulling the engine. I also don't like looking into the engine compartment of one of these trucks and seeing the engine sitting really low. It just looks strange...

Vern,
It sounds like you have the cxxxy higher and further forward than I do, I did not have to do anything to my floor of the transmission cover either. I have not removed the pan but I think there is sufficient space above the Jag crossmember and rack to drop the pan. I will have to check it out.

Vern,
I may just take a walk around the "yard" the next time I'm there just to see what is available. Maybe I can find something that will help everyone in the crossflow area. I'll let you know.

Bike,

The one I have came out of an 86 Buick Century with V6/air so don't bother looking at any mid 80s Buicks...
