Well the truck runs fine the the engine dies and goes ,dies and picks up again. It started in Arizona the stoped 45 mls later. Now 1500mls later its doing it again.Cps changed at 80,000 now it has 106,000. No engine codes what so ever. Any help please thanks.
Just what mine acted like. Now i keep one in the glove box for next time, which may never happen. Changed mine at 150,000 now have 173,000. How is your fuel filter?
What year is you truck??? Mine is an 01 and after changing the cps at 40000 and then again at 82000 I was having an intermittant short causing the truck to "Die" like a cps failure. and sometimes it would throw a code sometimes not. A mechanic friend put it on his monitor and drove it for a day and diagnosed a short in the engine wiring harness I have found several things that could be causing a short but have not solved it yet. One of the most concerning is the connector above the driverside valve cover. About 90% of the pins had corrosion on them. I cleaned them Tuesday evening and have not had a problem since. Dont know if that was the problem but its an easy check. 10mm bolt to get the harness plug off and a flathead scewdriver to remove the breather hose
Put the new cps in and ran it on the freeway and it did fine. Hooked up the 22ft boat and it cuts out at 40mph and wall the way up to 60 and still cutting out. Going to check the pins next. No engine light on.
Checked the pins over the driver side valve cover and looks good. Going to buy a new fuel filter next. Anymore Ideas. If the fuel pump is going out would I get an engine code out of this thing.
Sounds like you are chasing the same short I am. Every once and a while I get a code for "intermitant CPS circuit failure". This weekend I am going over the entire harness with a fine tooth comb. But after I cleaned that connector and 'repositioned' the harness a little it has gotten alot better. I feel pretty sure that the "short" is somewhere betweeen the harness and the passenger side UVC branch or a loose connection in the harness itself. When your truck dies does it feel like it hits very hard or is it just a faint stumble??
More of a faint stumble whats weird is in the subdivision im fine but once on the smooth hwy it acks up. Idle is perfect, and when it does die it come right back on the off again. Wish it would finally die so I can find the prob. Just about ready to trade it in 108000mls on it. Left it running and moved wires around and no problems.
Same here not problem while idleing. I left mine running for 4 hours and it never missed a beat even moving wires, But get on the road and it starts acting up. Ive ordered Autoenginuity and am going to road test it when it comes in. I feel like something was shorting the CPS circuit and when I moved the Harness it is now shorting something less vital.
While idleing nothing seems to effect the problem. I've driven about 100 miles today and has not died once, but i can still feel a soft jolt every once and a while. I am doing everthing I can short of replacing the harness (that is what the ford book says to do after changing the CPS doesnt fix the problem DTC P0344) cheapest I can find is around $560. Make sure that the CPS you put in had gold pins on it I have seen some come off ebay that still had the older tinned (FX6) style and they will cause all kind of electrical gremlins when used on a late 01 or newer truck that is supposed to have gold (FX7)
Just pulled the filter out and looked inside the bowl after draining it. It has black build up in it almost looks like dirt. Can the filter be cleaned without pulling tank. Mybe thats why it runs on hwy when i drive like a nascar driver during a caution.
