1968 Manual to Auto Conversion

I have heard that the brake pedal assembly for a 1973-1979 ford is a bolt on to a 1968 Ford truck? Is this true or not.

I would like to say thanks for your advice on my posted questions. I believe that they have speed up the progress on the completion of my projects.

Terry, it will. Would you post why you are considering the pedal change. When I upgraded my brakes on my 66 I kept the 66 pedal, and hooked it to the 76 assembly.

Just put in a auto steering collum, and cut off the clutch pedal, or hide it, now is a good time to convert to power steering if not allready done.

Am I the only one here who wants to do an automatic to manual conversion?

the 65-72 pedal shaft, the unit that the pedal(s) attach to under the dash are interchangeable between these trucks. I removed the clutch pedal from my 66 and used a 72 automatic shaft with my 66 pedal for my automatic conversion. Pure painless swap. I think the 73-79 pedal shafts are slightly different, but I could be wrong..... I would try to find a 65-72 shaft, lots of them out there, at least for now..

Just a comment....
I did the swap in my 76 and simply replaced the clutch pedal w/ a bolt from an automatic donor,.... reusing my brakepedal. The clutch pedal on that had a long stud that went through the brakepedal hanger that is simply a bolt on the automatic versions. However.. My 79 truck (manual) has a completely different hanger assembly... the clutch and brake pedals are hung separately... I haven't studied the arrangement on my 69 w/ manual. So they aren't all necessarily the same. I'd go find an automatic of your year in the wrecking yard and have a look see. You might not need anything but a bolt
